The Best Weapons in Gaming History — As Cosplay Props
Video games have given us some of the most visually spectacular weapon designs in all of fiction. Swords the size of buildings, guns that defy physics, staves crackling with elemental energy — and all of them can be brought to life as real, physical props. Here's our list of the ten most iconic video game weapons for cosplay, ranked by recognizability, visual impact, and just how incredible they look in photos.
1. Guts' Dragonslayer — Berserk / Elden Ring
The Dragonslayer is arguably the most famous oversized sword in all of fiction. It's a piece of raw iron the size of a door — technically not even a sword, as a character in the manga famously points out — and it is absolutely unforgettable. Whether you're going for the Berserk original or the Elden Ring-inspired version, this weapon turns every photo into a statement. Available in sizes up to 182cm.
2. Master Chief's Helmet — Halo
Okay, it's not a weapon — but it's the most iconic piece of equipment in gaming history. The MJOLNIR helmet is recognized by people who have never held a controller in their lives. As a wearable cosplay piece, it's the foundation of the most impressive convention build you can do. LED visor option available.
3. Gravity Gun — Half-Life 2
Gordon Freeman's Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator is one of the most unique prop designs in all of gaming. The shape is alien, industrial, and instantly readable — anyone who's played Half-Life 2 will recognize it immediately. It's also a great mid-size prop that's easy to carry around a convention. LED option adds the signature blue glow.
4. Darkmoon Greatsword — Elden Ring
Ranni's sword is one of the most beautiful weapon designs FromSoftware has ever produced. The moonlit silver blade with its distinctive crossguard and ethereal blue glow is elegant in a way that most fantasy swords aren't. At 120cm, it's an imposing prop that photographs beautifully — especially in low light with the LED effect active.
5. Mercy's Caduceus Staff — Overwatch
Mercy is one of the most cosplayed Overwatch characters in the world, and her staff is the centrepiece of the costume. The golden, winged caduceus design is immediately recognizable and strikes a graceful silhouette in photos. It's also a prop that works in both painted and unpainted versions — the shape is strong enough to carry itself.
6. Reinhardt's Rocket Hammer — Overwatch
If Mercy's staff is graceful, Reinhardt's hammer is the opposite — and that's exactly why it's on this list. This thing is enormous. It's the weapon of a man in a suit of armor the size of a small car, and when you carry it at a convention, people notice. Great for group cosplays where someone else is doing Mercy.
7. Zarya's Particle Cannon — Overwatch
Zarya is one of the most beloved Overwatch characters in the cosplay community, and her particle cannon is a distinctive, chunky, sci-fi gun that's unlike anything else on this list. The cylindrical barrel, the back tank, the pink energy aesthetic — it's unique and immediately recognizable.
8. Fyr'alath the Dream Render — World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft has produced some of the most spectacular weapon designs in gaming history, and Fyr'alath might be the most impressive of the modern era. This legendary Death Knight axe is enormous, detailed, and completely over-the-top in the best possible way. If you play WoW, you know what this is and you want it.
9. Staff of Ice — Call of Duty: Black Ops II Zombies
The elemental staffs from the Origins map in Black Ops II Zombies are a cult classic. The Staff of Ice in particular has a gorgeous crystalline design with an otherworldly blue glow. What makes it special for cosplay is that it's recognizable to a very specific and passionate community — and that community will absolutely lose it when they see one in person. Available individually or as a full set of all four elemental staffs.
10. Sauron's Mace — Lord of the Rings
Not a video game, technically — but close enough. Sauron's mace has appeared in countless games and is one of the most recognizable weapons in all of fantasy. It's brutal, imposing, and deeply satisfying to hold. The spiked flanged head and dark finish make for incredible photos. A guaranteed crowd-stopper at any convention.
Honourable Mentions
We couldn't fit everything — but shoutouts to the Gnasher from Gears of War, the Nikana Prime from Warframe, the Moonlight Greatsword from the entire FromSoftware catalogue, and Brigitte's Rocket Flail from Overwatch. All of them are great prop choices and most of them are available in our shop.
