Warframe Cosplay Guide — Tenno Builds and Prime Weapons

Warframe is one of the most visually distinctive games on the market — the Tenno aesthetic is part biomechanical, part futuristic, part ancient ritual. Cosplay in the Warframe universe is endlessly customizable because of the syandanas, prime variants, and color schemes. But every Tenno needs weapons, and we offer four Warframe weapons that span the full melee-to-firearm range. Here's the full guide.

The Four Warframe Weapons We Make

1. Nikana Prime — The Tenno Katana

The Nikana Prime is the iconic Tenno blade — a katana-style weapon with the Orokin-era gold and ivory accents that distinguish Prime variants. For any Warframe cosplay, this is the weapon that signals "Tenno" the most directly. The silhouette is recognizable across the Warframe community immediately.

Best suited for: lighter, faster Warframe builds. Loki Prime, Ash Prime, Nyx Prime — anything in the ninja-archetype family.

2. Galatine Prime — The Heavy Greatsword

The Galatine Prime is the heavy-hitter Tenno greatsword. Long, ornate, with the unmistakable Prime detailing along the blade. For Excalibur Prime, Rhino Prime, or any heavy-armor Warframe build, the Galatine is the right anchor weapon.

This is a substantial prop — expect serious attention at conventions. The Orokin gold accents catch light beautifully in photographs.

3. Lex Prime — The Sidearm

The Lex Prime is the Tenno sidearm — a heavy pistol with the same Orokin design language. For cosplayers who want a compact prop or a secondary weapon to pair with one of the larger blades, the Lex Prime is essential.

Two Lex Primes (one in each hand) for an akimbo Tenno pose, or paired with a Nikana on the hip, is one of the most photographed Warframe cosplay setups.

4. Hate Scythe — The Premium Custom

The Hate scythe is a custom-order piece — one of Warframe's most distinct melee weapons, the legendary Stalker scythe. The curved blade, the dark color palette, the ritualistic feel: this is the prop for a Stalker cosplay or for any Tenno who wants to lean into the darker, edgier side of the universe.

Stalker cosplays are rare at conventions, which makes them a strong choice for cosplayers who want to stand out. The Hate scythe is the centerpiece.

The Tenno Look

Warframe cosplay is enormously flexible because each Tenno frame has its own silhouette. Some general principles that apply across most builds:

  • Form-fitting under-layer — the Tenno aesthetic is sleek, not bulky. A black or dark-colored under-layer is the foundation
  • Armor accents — shoulder plates, knee guards, forearm pieces. These don't have to be a full set; even a few well-placed armor pieces signal "Warframe"
  • Color story — most Warframes have a distinctive primary and accent color. Excalibur Prime is gold and white. Mag is purple. Volt is yellow. Pick a Warframe and lean fully into its colors
  • Syandana (back cape) — the optional flowing fabric piece that's a key Tenno visual. Even a simple long fabric piece in your accent color works
  • Helmet — this is where the cosplay either succeeds or fails for most people. We don't currently stock Warframe-specific helmets but we take custom orders for any Warframe headpiece

Custom Orders for Warframe Builds

Warframe is one of the franchises we get the most custom order requests for. Frame-specific armor pieces, helmet variants, signature weapons we don't list publicly — all possible. If you have a specific Warframe in mind for your build, message us with a reference image and we'll quote the helmet or the armor pieces.

For more on commissioning custom props, see our custom order guide.

Painted Finishes for Tenno Weapons

Prime weapons in Warframe have a very specific color story — gold detailing on a base material (typically white, ivory, or charcoal). The painted versions of our Warframe props capture this look accurately — the gold trim, the engraving, the metal finish.

If you want to deviate from the standard Prime colors to match your specific Tenno's energy color, unpainted is the way to go. You can paint the base in your accent color (purple for Mag, yellow for Volt, etc.) and add the gold detailing yourself. Our at-home painting guide covers the techniques for getting gold detailing right.

The Posing

Tenno are silent, graceful, lethal. Posing should reflect this:

  • Crouched ready stance with Nikana drawn across body
  • Galatine planted blade-down, both hands on hilt, head bowed
  • Standing tall with Lex Prime in one hand at side, other hand relaxed — the calm before action
  • Hate scythe held diagonally across back like the Stalker, looking over shoulder

Avoid loud, theatrical poses. Tenno don't do theatrical. Tenno are intentional.

Group Cosplays

Warframe is built for cooperation. Four Tenno together — each with a different frame, different weapon, different syandana — is one of the most photogenic group cosplays you can put together. The shared aesthetic family pulls the group together visually while the individual variations keep each cosplayer distinct.

If you're coordinating with a group, decide on the mission archetype: stealth squad (Loki, Ash, Ivara, Nyx), defense squad (Rhino, Frost, Trinity, Excalibur), or a balanced mix. The weapons follow from the squad type.

All Warframe weapons are linked individually: Nikana Prime, Galatine Prime, Lex Prime, and Hate scythe. Browse the full Warframe collection to see everything together.

One Final Note

Warframe cosplay rewards commitment to the lore and to the aesthetic. The Tenno aren't soldiers — they're operators, ancient warriors, things that have been doing this for longer than most civilizations have existed. The cosplay works when you carry yourself with that weight. Quiet. Patient. Ready.

The Lotus has guidance for you, Tenno.
